Fall Cottage Life Show

The Fall Cottage Life Show was a great success. Although the number of people coming through the door may have been down, it was our best fall show ever. We always enjoy not only meeting new customers but connecting with some of our very old customers who can't believe we are still around. Kudos to all the staff of the Cottage Life Show for making it such a success.

Lightswitch plates by All Fired Up are always a great draw at the Cottage Life Show.

Introducing Stoneware by Jane Thelwell

We would like to introduce a new potter, Jane Thelwell from Kingston, Ontario. Last week we received a large order of her work in the store. We have chosen serving pieces in a soft blue or green glaze with a fish motif. There are large 16 1/2" platters, different sizes of bowls, square mugs and tumblers, planters and pitchers. We also have a small selection of her shino pieces.
We are looking forward to working with Jane for many years to come.

Introducing Melissa Schooley

We are very pleased to introduce Melissa Schooley, a new potter, to our store. She is from Ontario and works in porcelain. She has been a professional potter since 2002 and is a graduate of the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver. Her work is functional yet has a unique design element that is very different.

Lakeside Pottery

Bill and I just got back from Niagara-on-the-Lake to pick up an order of pottery by Ron and Barb Zimmerman. We have a great selection of the popular dark blue glaze. The berry bowls pictured above come in all their glazes.

Hand-blown Glass from Quebec City

It's been a very busy July. We went to Quebec City for a holiday and chanced on a glass blowing studio in the heart of the Old City. The master glass-blower is Jean Vallieres. We have just received the glass we picked out. It is handblown and has a very liquid look and feel to it. We hope our customers will appreciate the work involved. It is very different from the glass we carry by Susan Taylor-Stevenson and will give you several options if glass is your choice.

A Great Success!

The Yonge Lawrence Village Day and Sidewalk Sale was a great success for everyone including us at ardith one. Our customers came early and kept coming all day to enjoy the great savings. The weather was perfect...sunny but not too hot. The Yonge Lawrence Village BIA provided some fabulous street entertainment for both young and old. Bill and I appreciate all the effort put in by Rick O'Connor to make this such a successful event for us and the area. Kudos!

Thursday, May 31, 2007

It's that time of year again. Our annual pottery sale is next Saturday, June 9th in conjunction with Yonge Lawrence Village Day. Our sidewalk sale includes discontinued glazes, seconds and end of lines. Come rain or shine.

Rust/Blue Glaze by Indira Singh

We have just picked up an order from Indira in the rust/blue glaze plus some mugs, pates and fish bowls in her electric blue glaze. The rust glaze combined with the blue is a great combination and one we like very much. Known for her blue and yellow combination, Indira has found another winning mix that should do very well in the store.

Carol and John Bandurchin

Carol and John Bandurchin have delivered a stunning selection of their pottery. The collection includes bowls, platters, mugs and dip sets. Their glaze is very unique as you can see from these pictures. We always get a great response to their pottery and the bowls and platters make ideal wedding gifts.

Bas and Liliane Oorschot

Just upacked our spring order of pottery from Bas and Liliane. We now have a great selection of platters, bowls, oil lamps, bakers and pate pots in three glazes (cranberry, tan and blue). The great thing about this work is that we have extremely large bowls and platters. Not many potters can do pieces this size.

Bowls by Gabrielle Kauffman

I just went to pick up a great selection of bowls by Gabrielle. As you can see by the colours in these photos her work is very unique and unlike anything else we have in the store. They make a perfect wedding gift and I tried to pick out a good choice of sizes and prices. The picture below is the display in the store. We always do very well with her work because of the combination of red, browns, gold and a touch of blue. It seems to suit the current decor favoured by so many these days.

Mussels and More

A full compliment of Jan and Mike's shells and bowls are now back in the store. The exquisite shells are not only spectacular but totally functional and can be used in the oven. The detail on the bottom of each shell also very realistic. All their pieces are handmade out of a high-fired stoneware clay and are microwave and dishwasher safe.

New Potter: Susan Robertson

Well, we finally got the whole order from Susan. It got lost in the bowels of the post office and we were felt sure we were not going to get the final box. Susan is our first potter from Saskatchewan. All her work is handbuilt and done in porcelain. Using commercially prepared underglazes she has developed a wide range of colourful and funky designs. We have chosen the four flowers (iris, tulip, daisy and lily) for our mugs and the carrot, green onion and chili pepper for the serving pieces. We also have serving trays that are shaped like a salmon.

Canoe Dip Set

Daniel Maxwell's canoe dip sets and pates were one of our best selling items at the Cottage Life Show. We are very pleased to have his work in our store this year and look forward to selling many canoes and boats as the perfect cottage gift this summer.

Glassworks by Susan Taylor-Stevenson

We received our first shipment of glass by Susan last week. We are thrilled to be introducing her work into our store. This is quite a departure for us to have such a large display of something other than pottery. Each piece is created by fusing many layers of glass in a kiln for about 8 hours. The glass is then placed in a mold to form the shape and put back in the kiln for another 6 hours. The bowl above is an example of her soft blues, greens and purples. We also have brilliant red with gold and lime green with blue. There is a variety of colours, shapes and sizes to suit many tastes.

Eric Cuip Spring Order

We just got back from Montreal and picked up our spring order from Eric. His new glaze, persimmon and ash is spectacular and the shino glaze is as consistant as it could ever be. We are concentrating on these two glazes for the spring but still carry his mixed glaze (blue and brown), the all blue glaze and his green with yellow.

The mug rack

Wayne Cardinalli's Order

We went out yesterday to pick up some of Wayne's spring order. He has expanded his line to include some large slab plates with lots of imprints pressed into the clay. This seems to be a direction Wayne wants to take with his larger pieces. We got to see some spectacular containers and vases he hopes to bring into the shop through the first "show" we would have at the store. We are looking forward to the opportunity, hopefully in September. The casserole in the picture above is an example of Wayne's blue and ash glaze which has been very popular for many years. He added "Rosie's red" glaze and ash combination a few years ago and it has taken over as his most popular glaze in our shop.

Welcome the the ardith one blog. I am doing this as an added feature to I hope this will be a lot easier than updating the newsletter page on our website.

We have been in business for 36 years and at our present location for 31. Our purpose is to provide a good selection of functional pottery at affordable prices. I hope to update our customers on a weekly basis about all the new inventory arriving in the store. This spring we are introducing several new potters and glass by Susan Taylor-Stevenson.
We have never carried such an extensive selection of glass before and are very excited to present it to our customers. Her work is colourful and quite a contrast from the pottery.

I have just set up this blog and need to get some pictures taken so you can see what we have in the store. I will get to work at doing this in the next couple of days. Looking forward to this new form of communication with our customers.
